MY FAIR NEW LEADER (Copyright 2008 – A Sonnet for President Obama)

You are not fair, yet, I shall choose you as my leader.

For hope and charity that you may bring,

By whose standards of success, you might metre (meter),

For God Bless America, we all sing.

We chose you not because of your charm,

Or your promises from bad government to part,

Or because you say be done with the usual norm,

But because you offer compassion to a hopeful heart!

But, will for you, this admiration last?

It is not unanimous to this date.

Have we learned from errors of the past?

We watch anxiously for the ongoing debate.

Time will tell what the legacy will be.

Barack Obama will go down in history.
